 Great Game for the Budding Chess Enthusiast July 11, 2010

My son recently received this game for his eighth birthday and he loves it! He has been wanting to learn to play chess since he was six and this is a great tool for playing whenever he wants (Dad can't always play when my son wants to play and many of his friends are not quite in to chess yet), and it has a variety of playing skill levels to challenge him as he so chooses. The game also offers a "computer to computer" play mode in which he can watch the players play so that he can observe and learn new play strategies. There is a selection of background-, chess men, and game board options that he can configure for variety. He is still learning all of the things the game can do, but so far he has been truly enjoying the game.
 Does not run on XP SP2 or SP3 June 28, 2010

I got this game in April 2010 and so far I have not been able to run it. I have tried it on a Toshiba XP-Home-SP2 notebook and a year old Toshiba XP-Home-SP3 laptop as well as a two year old Dell XP-Pro-SP3 WS without any success. After many hours of trying and searching for a remedy, I have given up on this software. There is a high probability that this software does not work on newer PCs.

this is the only game my 6 years old looks forward to play on the computer. He challenged me in chess so much that I tried to relearn the game with it too. It is a fun way to learn to play chess. Highly recommended for kids and adults. I gave mine as a gift to friend and I'm buying few more to give as gift to friends.

if you love chess this the is the game for you! you are the Golden knight, you are the onley one who can defeat the dark lord sargon.That's onley Aventure mode. The next mode is freeplay mode.This is probley the best chess game ever made! My onley err is Majestic chess is big,you need atlest 630 mb.so,i have that but you may not. majestic chess is a great game for chess lovers!

There have been people who have reviewed this for kids. First it is a computer program therefore it will do the same thing over and over and doesn't learn like people do. When you do a move on one level you can move to a higher level to see how somebody rated higher will move.
The true beauty for adults or kids alike is for those who play on-line. When you lose you can setup the board and then switch to Grandmaster mode and see how he/she would move. Then flip sides and see how the Grandmaster would handle how to do it etc.
If anybody can read Ne5 or Qh1 they should be easily able to learn (with some help) how to setup a board and switch sides and switch levels.
No matter which game you buy make sure it has these options and Use Them!!!
After you have learn the basics go online and play against a computer(first) and when you lose come back to this game and learn how a Grandmaster would do it.
I can't say it enough. If you want to learn and I mean Learn how to play chess...do this!
