This game is in no way, a $20 game. It's a $5 bin game at best! If it was released in 2000 it might have been ground breaking.
Bad:
The voice acting is slow and very bad.
The controls are...hold button X while clicking the right mouse button on the item you want. and then hold X again and tell it to activate the item you just told the game to take out.
THIS IS WHY SPIDERMAN FAILED...SORTA
Whatever happened to 1,2,3,4,5 being keys to take out an item and right click to actsolivate or throw it? Quick and easy!
On the first mission, you are quickly lost because you may take out everyone in view and the door WILL NOT OPEN. The "inventory" key is supposed to give you Objectives. It simply says "find underground entrence" or something like that. I got stuck forever until I looked up a walkthru online.
Visuals: As far as what you see on the box and what is in the game, it's not an accurate view of the gameplay.
Good:
Visual...for 2000 it would have been cool.
ummm...that's it.
Ooooh! If you have an old system or a Walmart system, you can still play it with the low requirements.
This is a solid game. May 14, 2007 J. Lundberg 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one of my new favorite games. Soldier Elite has got a very good balance of stealth and shooter. Once, you get used to the controls, there is a lot of enjoyment to be experiened here. If you liked Splinter Cell, chances are you might also like Soldier Elite. Now granted, Splinter Cell 1 and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow are two of the best games ever made, in my opinion. But, there are some similarities here with Soldier Elite. Enough similarities to make this an enjoyable experience, once you get used to the controls.
You use stealth to sneak up on enemies and crack computers for information. You have to think about planning the way you proceed in the level. You can't just run and gun or you will surely die. The only thing really missing from the stealth aspect are the shadows to hide in. You have to use objects or walls to hide behind in this game. But, once you get used to that it adds to the challenge.
The weapons are a little limited, but they are very effective. The sniper rifle is very fun to use and the shotgun and pistol are too. You can even sneak up and knife people too. There are also some cool gadgets to use.
One of the most enjoyable things about Soldier Elite is the non-linear openess about the levels. There are so many ventilation ducts to enter that give you many options on how to play the levels. These levels are also big. They can result in many hours of enjoyment.
I, personally, enjoyed the graphics with Soldier Elite. There's no anti-aliasing, even if you force it on your card, but Splinter Cell 1 and 2 didn't have anti-aliasing either. But, just like Splinter Cell 1 and 2, you don't miss anti-aliasing once the game gets going.
I'm not saying Soldier Elite is just as good as Splinter Cell, I'm just saying that this is an enjoyable budget title that has enough good things about it to make it enjoyable. But, you MUST give it time and time enough to learn the controls and get used to them. Once, you do that, it's definitely worth taking a look at this game. I finished the game without one single crash or any other problems and I will definitely replay it later on. I'm usually leary of Dreamcatcher games but Soldier Elite is definitely worth taking a look at.
Oh yeah, if you have an Nvidia video card with Threaded Optimization in the advanced settings.. make sure you turn that option off or you will get some render texture errors when exiting the game each time.
